The park’s most elusive inhabitants are its felines, of which there are five species including the lion, leopard and smaller civet, genal and serval cats.
Lions are found throughout the park, but the most renowned live in the southern sector of Ishasha, where they prefer to rest during the day on the limbs of the large fig trees that are scattered through the savanna.
This also makes them easier to spot – look out for their twitching tails!
Solitary leopards are both nocturnal and fiendishly well camouflaged… making it all the more rewarding for the lucky visitor who glimpses one!
The smaller cats are also predominantly nocturnal and easiest to see on a night game drive.
