Culture and Heritage is an important tourist product worth experiencing during Uganda Safaris. Are you looking for a Cultural Site that offers opportunities for relaxing to offset stress? Then Kiwa heritage is your perfect destination for unwinding while at the same time offer opportunities for learning and understanding the history and culture of the bakonzo people.
The Kiwa heritage Hot spring is one of the most interesting places you can explore after a game viewing safari within Queen Elizabeth National Park. One exceptional thing about this site is that it is perfect for unwinding or relaxing after a long stressful day or week.
Kiwa Heritage is a natural and cultural Conservation Area with spectacular Hot springs for tourists to enjoy a warm bath and believed to have healing powers due to the numerous minerals and chemicals such as calcium phosphate, magnesium chloride, lithium sulphate, calcium sulphate, sodium chloride and potassium chloride in the water. While at this place, you don’t have to visit a spa or gym because this site is itself a natural spa. Locals always sit in the water of the Hot spring because they believe it reduces weight besides its healing powers for several ailments especially the skin diseases.
The locals living around the area believe that sitting on the hot springs control someone’s body weight, which you and I think sounds unbelievable. People flock (over 100 visitors per week including all ages) from far places to the place to immerse in Kiwa Hot spring to get healed and break weight. Some of the visitors and the locals around the attraction have testified of how they have lost weight due to sitting in the Hot spring.
However, Medical personnel from Bishop Masereka Medical Center within Kasese Town say and believe that much as hundreds of people visit the site due to the assumed healing powers, it takes psychology, faith and belief in the healing powers of the Hot springs for it to work for the people.
On top of the magnificent Hot springs, other interesting attractions exist at the site such as the Bukangama Community Museum that showcases some of the artifacts representing the rich history and aspirations of the local communities within the Rwenzori region, especially the Bakonzo. Not only that, a riverside beach exists near River Nyamwamba as well as the numerous Rocks, rapids and jagged flood plain. There is also a Volleyball court next to the Beach to allow tourists to relax. A vast fish pond exists for tourists interested in participating in sport fishing
Besides Kiwa heritage Hot springs, the Rwenzori region is a home to eight other Hot springs including Shauri yako and Kibenge Hot springs in Kasese district, Sempaya hot springs within Bundibugyo district and Rwagimba Hot springs in Kabarole district among others.
In conclusion, Kiwa Heritage Hot spring in Kasese District is one of the interesting attractions within western Uganda due to the healing powers that locals believe it possesses. You can therefore visit it for a safari and also prove or disapprove of its healing powers but one thing for sure is that it contains several minerals and chemicals such as calcium phosphate, magnesium chloride, lithium sulphate, calcium sulphate, sodium chloride and potassium chloride among others.
